Background

The 1st International Day of Water Justice took place on 31 January 2025 in Canberra, Australia. This event marked the first global effort dedicated to addressing issues of justice in water access, use, and governance. It brought together representatives from Indigenous communities in Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Kenya, and Mexico, fostering intercultural dialogue, knowledge exchange, and visibility for local struggles, particularly those of Indigenous, rural, and marginalised communities.

Objectives

✓ To continue a dialogue floor that enhances the voices of communities confronting water justice challenges.

✓ To interlink community-based traditional and scientific knowledge in the search for transformative solutions.

✓ To strengthen cooperation networks among actors from different regions and sectors towards ensuring access to safe and affordable drinking water.
