Dr. Safa Fanaian

Safa Fanaian is a researcher at the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) in Nepal. Her work focuses on water governance, gender equality and social inclusion, economics and finance, and fostering inclusive and just decision-making to advance integrated water–energy–food–environment security. She has over ten years of experience collaborating with civil society, governments, financial institutions, and local communities to co-design solutions that address systemic barriers and strengthen resilience to climatic uncertainty. Safa holds a Doctorate in Geography and the Environment from the University of Oxford. She is a National Geographic Explorer and an Honorary Lecturer at the Crawford School of Public Policy, Australian National University.
