
Dra. Teresa Shamah Levy
Dr. Teresa Shamah Levy is the director of the Center for Research in Evaluation and Surveys (CIEE) at Mexico’s National Institute of Public Health and a professor at the School of Public Health of Mexico. She holds degrees in Nutrition, Health Sciences (Epidemiology), and a Doctorate in Public Health. She is a Level III member of the National System of Researchers, a Level F Medical Sciences Researcher, a member of the Academy of Sciences of Morelos, and chairs the Evaluation and Recommendations Committee of EVALUA CDMX.
She has coordinated Mexico’s National Health and Nutrition Surveys (ENSANUT) since 1999 and leads several other national surveys, including those on tobacco, COVID-19, and health expenditures. With more than 265 scientific articles, 52 book chapters, and 12 books, she is a leading figure in public health research. Her work focuses on nutrition in Mexico, anemia in women, food fortification, water and food security, and childhood obesity. She has received major national awards, including the Gerardo Varela Award and the Carlos Canseco González Chair.
